David Grace HSTM 4430 10/8/17 The major collegiate athletic department I decided to discuss is Colorado State University. CSU is located in Fort Collins, Colorado and competes in Division I of the NCAA in all sports. Sponsorships CSU has various relationships with different businesses throughout the United States. On July 27, 2017 CSU received its newest sponsor in Safeway. Safeway is a grocery retailer and became the official Grocery Partner of Colorado State University Athletics. Safeway received exclusivity in that category in all print, radio, social media, internet, television, and in-venue advertising of CSU’s athletic department. Another sponsor that CSU has obtained is a sponsorship with Dunkin Donuts. Dunkin Donuts entered a sponsorship with CSU in 2015. CSU also uses emails as a marketing tool in order to grab the attention of potential fans. These online polls are used to gather information about their fans preferences so that they can put a plan in progress to cater to the specific needs of their fan (CSU,2017). The two main segments that CSU targets is high school students and graduates of the university. CSU targets high school students because they want to build a relationship between the student and the university before they actually get there so they will feel right at home if they attend the school. CSU targets graduates of the university because they want to keep a relationship with those students so that they can build a strong alumni program and relationship. CSU’s sport product is “defend the fort” which is referring to the hometown of Colorado State University.
