The student teaching experience of fall 2017 has been an eye opening experience that has enlightened me on many different levels. The TESOL program has also enlightened me on many different educational ideologies that have helped prepare me for student teaching. I have done a number of key assignments in the program that revolve around four main educational ideologies. These educational ideologies are called conceptual frameworks. These frameworks are what make up the key assignments and they are titled The Life –Long Learning and Development, The Compassion for service to the Community, The Pedagogical knowledge and Skills, and The Capacity for Informed Reflective action. The key assignment for EDU 652 was to write up a curriculum map for elementary fourth grade students. The curriculum map consisted of subjects Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA. The curriculum map also contained prior knowledge of the students before the lessons were taught. The curriculum map gives a general review of each lesson along with its connecting formal and informal assessments. The assignment includes Common Core learning standards and it's reasoning for each subject. Each lesson also has its own content that has been modified using ESL language standards and techniques that are adequate and addresses student needs. Creating this curriculum map has helped me develop a sequential process of instruction. Throughout working alongside my co-teacher at my first placement of student teaching , I was able to map out over the course of a month what the students were going to be learning and what assessments will be given to students. The teacher and I would scaffold and modify lessons ahead of time for those students that we know would need it. I would also read to the students and instruct ELA and Math lessons from their journeys curriculum book. They key assignment for TSL 658 was to create a literature review on a particular educational issue and evaluate how it affects schools today. The topic I choose to write about for the literature review was bullying. I took a look at different points of view of bullying, for example the bullying victim's point of view and the ones doing the bullying themselves. The literature review also looked at different factors of bullying such as race, gender, age, and academic success in schools. The research showed different graphs and percentages of the varying bullying factors. Solutions to bullying we're also explored throughout the research. These solutions include community intervention programs, school prevention programs, and students self regulating themselves in their own bullying behaviors. This assignment helped me understand the variety of factors that play a role when trying to develop a solution that can permanently reduce bullying. This assignment also helped me understand that some teachers need to be trained in bullying prevention in order to be effective in making a difference when it comes to reducing bullying behaviors. My research found teachers who believe that other teachers are not properly trained in bullying prevention. This leads to teachers who do wrong actions towards solving the issue by either inviting more trouble or not doing enough
