Journal 10: Effective Schools
In order for schools to be successful, there needs to be a clear school mission. This means that the teachers are required to set goals and standards for the classroom. In addition, teachers must be reliable and dependable role models for students. Furthermore, instructors are expected to provide quality education to students to ensure academic success. With an initiative being set, teachers then form high expectations for success for students. Instructors must have confidence in a student’s ability to understand the material being taught. In order for teachers to reach these high expectations, there needs to be a great deal of authority over the classroom and school. This would involve a great deal of instructional leadership. The principal is expected to enforce objectives by collaborating with teachers, students and their parents.

These teachers must be able to provide the necessary information and also accommodate to the variety of learning styles of students. For example, to assist visual learners, a teacher could implement the use of charts and diagrams in a lesson. For kinesthetic learners, instructors can provide group work and projects, allowing students to move around and collaborate with others through hands-on activities. This keeps students engaged in what is being taught. Furthermore, staff and schools are responsible for providing a safe learning environment. Classrooms that are well organized and have clear rules and expectations provide order and a space for students to be able to learn. For example, if a classroom is relatively small and quiet, students are able to get a gist of what is being taught as opposed to large disorganized and rowdy
