Educational Philosophy Statement

I believe that education allows every student to learn, grow, and prepare for the world that awaits them. Through education, students learn how to read, write and count. Not only does education provide that, but it also gives students communication skills, how to work with one another and most importantly, teaches them to love learning. These qualities play a big role in student’s futures and lives. What I will do to help my students is create a classroom environment where they feel safe, but most importantly feel like they can succeed. I believe children learn best when they are able to try things on their own. Teachers should give students tasks where they can do projects and gather their own information. This encourages students to think, ask questions, and come up with solutions. In addition, students learn best when they are given time to understand something. My plans are to individually go over a problem with a struggling student and find a way they learn best. We know students have different learning styles; visual, auditory, physical, social, solitary. I will have 5 centers which will allow all students to experience these learning styles, while still learning the curriculum. The centers will help the students in their subjects; Language & Literacy, Creative Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. In addition, all teaching in my classroom will be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Standards-based lessons will help prepare my students for the challenges of first grade. My door will always be open to all students who need help. I will remain positive all the time to encourage students and let them know I believe in them. I will measure my effectiveness as a teacher by assessing to track improvements in my students. Instead of testing my students, I will sit with them and do small activities where I will ask them questions and see if they use vocabulary we learned.
