An important part of effective teaching revolves around creating and maintaining an efficient classroom environment that encourages students to actively participate, rather than passively learn. As an educator, it is important to create a learning-centered environment that is safe, supportive and educational for each individual student as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Establishing a learning environment that is conducive to teaching and learning comes from emphasizing on a series of components that make this possible. It is important that I arrange my classroom in way that is conducive to the children’s social, emotional, and academic growth. In order to do this I make sure I establish a purposeful learning environment where students feel safe, confident and valued. Ways I would demonstrate this is by organizing the desk in a systematic way that allows me to see every student, and gives every student the opportunity to see the board. My preference for arranging desk in clusters facilitates the instructional goals in place and allows sufficient interaction between students and myself, as well as among the students themselves. Additional techniques I implement in order to establish a purposeful learning environment is by displaying numerous instructional-based visual aids and resources around the classroom in order to increase students desire to actively learn. Displaying student art work is an effective technique as it plays a big impact on student’s emotional growth because it demonstrates to the student that as a teacher I care about their work enough to show it off. Based on past experiences, I have been able to learn that establishing high expectations verbally is the basic foundation for an effective classroom. By expressing my expectations verbally students become aware of what is expected of them. However, I believe that it is important to also show students what high expectations mean and how to meet them. Along with posting my expectation in written form inside the classroom, I also make sure that I am constantly role modeling for them by making sure that every decision I make in the classroom is consistent with the high expectations expressed to them. By becoming an active role model and setting such high expectations for my students, I am able to observe that students become more responsible and accountable for their academic performances and
