When signing up for EDUC 201, I already knew I wanted to be a teacher. I am set on caring for my students, having a positive impact, and becoming an excellent educator. Usually when people tend to go for teaching, it is for the love of children and education. This SHOULD be the reason. People definitely shouldn't be doing it for summers off, or even worse, the giant paycheck teachers get. If there is one thing that the education field should have, it is passion. Passion to believe in your students, passion to believe in the curriculum, and passion for seeing your students succeed is a truly special characteristic to have as a teacher. Although I have love for my future students, I realized I have a lot to learn about being a teacher. This isn’t an “easy” field to go into like people would like to think. The media, government, and even our student’s parents will have their own thoughts about what we as teachers should do. As I go into this field more and more, I am realizing children are not the only people I will be communicating with. In fact, communication is a great way to benefit my classroom. Communicating with parents and people within the district can only strengthen my relationships and the classroom. The more I read about what teachers actually do, the more I realize how unappreciated teachers are. I would love to think I am going into a field where all my hard work will be appreciated. However, there is politics within every field, and education happens to be one of them. The only way I feel as if I can go about this is to remember the reason why I chose this degree. Staying positive and remembering how much I love children is one way I will cope with issues. Overall, this book taught me a lot about what I will face.
