Emporia State University Personal Statement

My educational goals are to attend Emporia State University to obtain a degree in education, and to also hopefully run for the track team. I have always wanted to become a teacher, my parents and grandparents were and are teachers. Both of my patrilineal grandparents received degrees from Emporia State University, and then became teachers until they retired. Both of my parents received their undergraduate, and master's degrees in teaching from Emporia State University. My dad has been a Special Education teacher for 32 years, and my mother has been a Social Studies teacher for 25 years. Also I have numerous - aunts, and - uncles that have received degrees from Emporia State University and are currently teachers from the elementary to the college level. My family has a long connection with Emporia State University and a long history in the field of teaching. My family background has not only inspired me; but, they also made me understand what it means to be an educator. From all of this I understand

With my interest in history I hope to become a history teacher.I hope someday to pass on my love of history to my students; helping them understand that history isn't just about a bunch of boring facts but it's really about learning from our past and bettering our future. I would also love to be a coach someday. I have played sports since I was young and have been a three sport athlete all through middle school and high school. My grandfather was a coach for many years, and my parents are still coaches and I have been watching them couach my whole life. Then in middle school, and high school my parents became my coaches. They have instilled the beliefs of hard work and competitiveness, and I hope to one day instill these ideas into my athletes. I think it would be very rewarding to become a teacher and coach and be an inspiration to young students just like I was inspired by my coaches and
