No matter who you are - a student, a teacher, a parent, or an employee – people despise waking up at 6 a.m. to get ready for the day. As a result, it is only reasonable as well as logical to assume that students hate waking up early to go to school and thus hate going to school altogether. Most schools start at 8 a.m., of which many students believe is an unreasonable time due to their usual sleepless nights spent working on homework or studying for a test. Teachers often reiterate the same, as they spend countless hours marking said homework and tests. Therefore, schools should start at 9:30 a.m., as it would improve performance at school, improve mental health, and eliminates the risks caused by sleep deprivation.

There are over seventy types of sleeping disorders, an abundant number of which could negatively impact a student’s personal life as well as school life. According to Harvard Health, the most effective way to combat sleeping disorders, is by increasing the amount of sleep a person has on average each night. The only logical and effective way for schools around the globe to respond to this study, is by having schools start at a later time. In addition to sleep combating an array of sleep disorders, sleep also combats mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. Mental disorders have a severe impact on a student’s life, including their school life; therefore it is vital for schools to start at a later time to decrease the potential for mental disorders to arise and disrupt the student’s life for the worse. Finally, it is universally known, that when one sleeps the recommended amount of sleep, that they are happier and have a more positive attitude towards life, which all people know is the best outlook someone can have for the future. To sum, the increased sleep resulted by the later start to the school day will result in an increase in overall mental health, by combatting sleeping and mental disorders, as well as combatting negative
