As the first person in my immediate family to attend college, the bar was not set very high but I aimed for the highest anyways. With my father as my only support system, I had to get a job as soon as I graduated high school to help with my college tuition and other bills to keep us afloat. My first semester here at Florida International University was a bit challenging but I pushed through. I managed to receive and maintain a 4.0 GPA while working worked 25 hours per week, taking 15 credits and was involved in multiple extracurricular activities such as Student Ambassador, Hosa club, Peer Mentors and vice president of Phi Eta Sigma. While I loved being involved here at FIU, it was getting overwhelming since I started the Nursing program in Fall so I had to withdraw from some of my extracurricular activities, which really broke my heart. Tragically, a budgetary weight may reduce my opportunity on acing the courses. Therefore, I would significantly value some assistance with the goal that I can effectively get my Nursing degree.
Awarding this scholarship will make a great contribution to my studies here at Florida International University. This scholarship will allow me to work less and focus more on my studies and allow me to be more involved in school. Although my father supports me financially, I receive a limited financial assistance due to his low income. I managed to get through my first two years in college with my income, the loans we took we out, and the little my father could support me with. However, it has gotten more difficult to pay for my tuition and all the school supplies needed for Nursing
