Henry Ford was born on June 30th 1863, he was raised on his family’s farm in Wayne County, in Dearborn Michigan. When Ford was just 13 he began taking apart and fixing watches for friends and family. At the age of 16 ford left home and began apprenticeship for a machinist in Detroit. He began to learn about steam engines, and studied bookkeeping. Ford married Clara Ala Bryant and returned to the farm working to support his wife and son, Edsel. A few years later he was hired at the Edison Illuminating company. He was movies to chief engineer. While still working for the Edison Company Ford began making designs for a horseless carriage. In 1886 Ford manufactured the first model, the Ford quadricycle. The first car that ford released in his new company was the Model T in 1908. The company was receiving 100 percent gains. Ford was not only known for making profits, he revolutionized the working world. Giving consumers an affordable car that the average skilled worker could afford. Not only that but giving the Nation hundreds and thousands of new jobs. Ford sponsored the birth of the assembly line technique, and gave mass production a new name. He also introduced the five dollars a day wage. This was equivalent to a hundred and ten dollars in 2011, half of all cars in 1918 were Model T’s.

Henry Ford changed all of this when the Model T was released. He sold the car for $825.00, in 1908. Ten thousand people bought the car in the first year, making a new record. One year later he sold the car for just $575.00,by that time Ford controlled 48% of the automobile market. Aside from developing an affordable car within the common americans buying reach, he perfected the assembly line. One Model T took less than 6 hours to be made. I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one. -Henry Ford. Henry Ford lived in a time of extreme change. He was born towards the end of the Civil war and died at the beginning of World War II, He witnessed the industrial revolution. From candles to Light bulbs and horses to automobiles. He helped start the industrial revolution and when Pearl Harbor was attacked Henry Ford used the Giant Willow Run Plant, by the end of the war Ford had built 86,865 complete aircrafts, 57,852 airplane engines, and 4,291 military gliders.
