Youth need encouraging people in their lives because they sometimes need to hear good things and feel good about themselves. The Jefferson Award is an award that goes to a person who has done something good for many people. Someone who could be recognized for the Jefferson Award would be Tony Aizpuria. Tony is a kind man and a father of three. He has been a basketball coach for over 5 years. Tony deserves the Jefferson Award because he is inspiring and compassionate. One reason Tony Aizpuria deserves the Jefferson Award is because he is inspiring. This demonstrates, that Tony takes inspiration to a whole different level for his team. Likewise, Aaron Wittkop, a teammate of Tony, said, “If I make a mistake he tells me that it is okay and I will get it next time.” This supports the idea that Tony inspires everyone around him and helps lift his basketball team up. Clearly, Tony Aizpuria deserves the Jefferson Award because he has helped inspire many young people. Others might say that a doctor deserves the Jefferson Award because they help people get better, however, Tony Aizpuria deserves the award more because he is compassionate to everyone and helps his team be their best. According to 20 Essential Coaching Attributes by Ajit Nawalkha and Annamarie Nagy, “Your coaching clients can only grow if they feel that you’re compassionate towards their issues. They need to feel that they’re in a space free of judgment and full of empathy where their challenges are respected and their failures are safe to express”(Nagy,2024). This expert opinion about the importance of having the quality of compassion is also a reason why people have been selected for the Jefferson
