In my search for the college I would attend, I did not at first genuinely consider Idaho State University as an option. Having lived in Pocatello for the entirety of my life, ISU was always looming nearby, but it was almost easy for me to dismiss it completely, as I and my family dreamed of the possibility of me moving away for college. Most of my peers spoke of ISU as if it were an inferior institution, and treated it as a last resort. However, in the years approaching my graduation from high school, I focused on ISU with a fresh perspective, and I realized that I could maybe fall in love with it. I knew that the university was a valuable piece of Pocatello’s community, and I adore the connection of the school with our town. The ultimate deciding factor for me was the friendly faces and the pre-college involvement that ISU offers. Being a university with a campus in my hometown, I was able to meet a few professors while I was still in high school, and their enthusiasm for the university and my possible attendance was encouraging. Several professors from the music department conveyed an interest in including me in the music program, and a few academic advisors were more than willing to meet with me earlier than the school year started to make sure that I was comfortable and on track with my goals. My family would be close, and their support is invaluable in my quest for education. And ISU’s willingness to extend a helping hand to a stressed and undecided teenager was generous, and the opportunity given to me by ISU gave it the image of a school that I would love to be a involved with. College was not something I was prepared for, or something that I dared to think about for some time. However, ISU staff and opportunities were considerably constructive, instructive, and opportune for experiencing a taste of post-secondary
