As a senior in high school, and an incoming college freshman, I believe that Illinois State University is a good fit for me for various reasons, including the School of Psychology, its proximity to my home and therefore my family, as well as the fact that I am quite accustomed to the campus atmosphere. For the past six years, I have known wholeheartedly that I aspire to go into the field of psychology, particularly focusing on adolescent counseling. I came to know that this is what I wish to pursue through the mental and emotional challenges that I overcame with my parent’s long and difficult divorce. But I never spoke to anyone about my feelings, with the exception of my closest friend and occasionally my school counselor at Metcalf. My parents raised me to seek out opportunities to help people in any way that I am able, and I truly believe that entering the field of psychology with the intention of getting my doctorate, is the best possible way that I can help others. By doing this, I can become the person that I truly needed when I was younger, for other children and adolescents who may need someone to express their feelings to. I believe that by attending Illinois State, I will receive an excellent undergraduate education to help be begin this journey. I have always wished to attend a college that is fairly close to home, as I am and have always been close with my family, and would like to stay nearby; by attending Illinois State, I would be no further away from home than I have had to travel daily to school for the past thirteen
