Jay then had stated in his second testimony that he dropped off Adnan back at school at 12:30 after shopping with him at the mall where Adnan supposedly said that he would kill Hae. After dropping him off they met up at Best Buy where Jay saw Hae dead in the trunk. On a different note, Adnan and Hae’s relationship had to be kept secret because their parents did not approve of them dating, which means the Adnan was under a lot of pressure to keep the relationship a secret. When Hae broke up with Adnan, Adnan would have felt betrayed and hurt that someone he gave up so much for didn’t want to be with him anymore. These feelings would have built up inside of Adnan occasionally slipping out in joking comments like, “I’m going to kill that *****”. Adnan probably didn’t plan to murder Hae, he most likely snapped and killed Hae in the heat of the moment says another case specialist. Sometimes, when a person snaps like that they suffer memory loss of the event and cannot remember what they did.
The fact there was no physical evidence makes me uncomfortable with saying that he indeed killed her. I think it is quite possible that Jay just made up the story of Adnan killing Hae because he was upset that his girlfriend,
In fact, I think it only further corroborates my theory that Jay killed Hae on his own and then pointed to Adnan. Because if you were in possession of your friend’s car and your friend’s phone, how would you make it look like your friend was with you? By calling someone in your friend’s phonebook whom you did not know. During the trial, the lawyers question Nisha about a time in which Adnan called her and then put Jay—at Jay’s insistence—on the phone to say hello. While Nisha confirms that such a call did happen, she is adamant that it was made from the adult video store where Jay worked.
“ Okay, so no one actually testified at trial that they saw Hae and Adnan leave school together.” So nobody saw them leave together, that’s some evidence that Adnan didn’t kill Hae. Also some people said “They’re still friendly; several people said they couldn’t tell or didn’t know that Hae and Adnan broke up.” so basically they were still pretty close after their breakup so honestly there is no motive that Adnan would have used to kill Hae. They were a power couple until they broke up and a few days later she went missing on January 13, 1999, and on February 9, 1999, her body was discovered at Leakin Park. Adnan was immediately considered a suspect, especially after a “friend” of his, Jay Wilds, told the police what had happened that day and the cell towers played the biggest role in the investigation.

Episode 2 of the podcast Serial Becky claims to have witnessed Hae turning down Adnan 's request for a ride that day. Keisha claimed she saw Adnan and Hae talking with each other after school. Debbie claimed she saw both Adnan and Hae after school, separately. No one claims to have seen Adnan leave with Hae. No one saw Adnan get in Hae 's car.
Adnan, as is said by Sarah Koeing, "Adnan was the kind of kid who would stand up when your parents came into the room, Ali said. At parties or events, he’d be the first one to ask, 'how can I help you, Aunty? Do you need help setting up those tables, Uncle?'"(Serial Transcript 11). Besides the moments when Adnan was kind to his friends or his family, it is clear as Sarah talks to him throughout the podcast that he truly doesn't know anything about Hae's murder. One month later, on February 9th, her body was found in Leakin Park in Baltimore, Maryland. After an autopsy, it was determined that Hae was strangled to death.
However, when police discovered that same note with Adnan’s stuff, the note stated “I’m going to kill”. To clarify, when Adnan and Aisha were done commenting on the breakup note, Adnan went home or someplace and wrote that he was going to kill Hae. That being said, Adnan actually confessed his motive to his drug buddy Jay, and not only did he confess his motive, but Adnan had Jay assisted him in murdering Hae. Confirming that Adnan strongly communicated his motive to murder Hae multiple times to himself, and to his friends. These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
Here are some reasons that I found that will support their thinking. The first reason is that there is a lot of evidence that could possibly be when he killed her. I know this because Adnan keeps asking hae for a ride. What this means is that in one of the car rides he could have killed her. He also could have used this as an excuse to kill her.
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
