In document F, John Brown says, “I have, it may please the Court, a few words to say. In the first place, I deny everything but what I have all along admitted.”. He also said in document G that his statements clashed and that he did not intend for there to be any killing, but just to place the slaves in a condition to defend their liberties. This example shows that John Brown was untrustworthy and went against his word by denying all of his actions and even admitting to his statements not matching up at all. He also said that he did not intend for there to be any killing.
John Brown was a hero because he freed slaves, he was a respectable person, and he was trustworthy. First of all, John Brown freed slaves. According to Document A, there were two companies, one John Brown managed, and they forcibly liberated
(Document F) Since he lied about almost everything, that is another reason to believe he is a villain. Even though he was facing death, he could have told the truth and tried to tone it down, not lie about everything. He also ended up saying something that would be completely contradicted in a later letter to his friend. Finally, he tried to start a revolt/civil war. In document G and H, it proves that John Brown WAS trying to start a revolt, despite what he said in F. He said, in a letter to his friend, that he “wanted to put the slaves in a condition to defend liberties” (Document G), which translates to putting the slaves in a place where they can fight back, or in other words, he was supplying them with
There are many arguments in favor of John Brown being a freedom fighter. For example, he saw the wrong in having slaves. He had strong faith and he believed in it very much. John did all of the things he did because he believed that God gave him his duty. He wanted to fight for slave freedom because he believed that slaves should be free and treated as equals.
Brown grew up in a house that didn’t like people having slaves and was very religious. So every decision’s he made he didn’t regret because he was doing it for god or for the slaves. Everything he did he believed it was a mission from god.
Have you ever wanted to make something that was unjust fair? Well probably not as bad as John Brown. John Brown was an abolitionist who lived before the civil war who wanted to abolish slavery so bad that he gathered around twenty slaves and tried to capture an armory but failed ultimately. The agreement about this between the South and the North is that he tried to abolish slavery by killing many slave owners , but this is where the views separated.
John Brown was an abolitionist from the North who was raised to think that slavery was a sin. He was so devoted to God, that he broke many laws and killed a lot of white slave owners in order to achieve a "moral end." So in reality, he thought he was doing good and serving God's will, but he was actually costing lives and doing more bad than good. Over the course of his life, he had over twenty children with two wives and John Brown and his sons fought against slavery, which resulted in some sons dying. Brown moved his family a lot over many different states, and his home in Pennsylvania was a stop on the Underground Railroad.
His family believed that there should be no slavery. When John Brown was older he took a vowel to be an abolitionist which means someone who is against slavery. John Brown thought that if he wasn't getting "lucky" pleasing God therefore he wasn't trying to be a perfect young adult. Brown thought if he pleased God he would live for eternity in heaven. So John wanted
John Brown was a Villain. “John Brown was not only a murderer of innocent persons, but he attempted one of the greatest crimes against society -- the stirring of a servile and civil war” (Document H). John Brown’s actions have caused many people to suffer injuries or even death. He’s caused many problems and committed crimes including treason, murder, and destruction of property. This is important because he was the spark that started the first modern war, the Civil War.
In most of the documents, lots of people were against slavery, but none had the brain or power to make it happen. John Brown did and was willing to risk everything. There were lots of famous people who were against the cause like Abe Lincoln, but there were also civilians who were against slavery and John Brown stood for them. John Brown is a hero because without the extreme actions he took, slavery might not be over. In the documents, there was really no one else that was willing to take extreme measures like John Brown was.
John Brown’s actions to end slavery were repeatedly violent and sometimes
Later in a letter to prosecutor Andrew Hunter, he states that he gave the slaves a chance to fight back though he never intended to free the slaves. Usually, if someone says something very serious like that they would dedicate their life to free slaves, they would most likely stick to their word and not contradict everything they’ve ever done in their life. “ I intended to convey this idea, that it was my object to place the slaves in a condition to defend their liberties, if they would, without any bloodshed, but not that I intended to run them out of the slave States” (Brown Document G). John Brown says that he gave the slaves the chance to fight for their lives while he didn’t actually intend to free them, while in his speech, he tells everyone that he did not want people to die and that he only wanted to “free” the slaves. It is often thought that John Brown was a hero because he had many supporters who supported his doings.
He took part in some very violent conflicts against pro-slavery supporters and did some wild things in the name of banishing slavery. The real question is whether he is a hero or a villain, and I believe that John Brown was a hero because he returned stolen property when he realized it was already owned, tons of people believed in and supported him, and he died to end slavery. Firstly, he is a proven good man because he returned stolen property
Looking at what he has fought for, it’s no doubt that he fought for a noble cause which is the freedom of slavery. John Brown shouldn’t be known as hero or terrorists because of want he has done applies to both sides. John Brown shouldn’t be known as a terrorist or a national hero because of his violent attack and raids. After, September 11, 2001 John Brown has been called a terrorist which has caused controversy about Brown’s legacy and reputation. Furthermore, in the article, The 9/11 of 1859 says, “He led 21 men all but two in their 20s, and many of them radicalized by guerilla fighting in Bleeding Kansas, the abolitionists’ Afghanistan”(Horowitz).
Oh, The Pirate Life “AHOY MATEY” is a friendly, carefree, pirate greeting used by pirates in literature, movies, advertising, and entertainment. The name that often is associated with the fun-loving pirate image is Captain Jack Sparrow. He is the popular character from the movie, The Pirates of The Caribbean. Sparrow’s character adds to the typical stereotype that pirates are dangerous, but in a goofy, fun-loving, don’t-need-to-worry-about-them, sort of way.
