My Head Teller: Servant Leadership Analysis

“Charisma refers to behaviors leaders demonstrate that inspire confidence, commitment, and admiration” (Carpenter, et. al. 2013). Leaders who are charismatic have a personality that is appealing to their followers. Charismatic leaders are transformational in two ways: one in which that they are inspirational and come up with a vision that appeals others, and another, in which they are intellectual enough to create ideas to encourage their employees to work harder (Carpenter, et. al. 2013).

The role of a Head Teller is to manage and improve the teller staff in a variety of ways. After considering those different types of leaderships, I believe my Head Teller represents a servant leadership. First, he is a very friendly, supportive, and motivated individual. He demonstrates a servant leadership because he is so obligated in helping others rather than working on himself. The fact that he is so friendly of a person enables other staff members to take advantage of him. Sometimes he’ll be so caught up in all the work that the store manager gives him that he doesn’t even have time to focus on his own tellers. He tries to take up too many responsibilities and help everyone that he only stresses himself out. Whenever he is working with us on the teller line though, he is very effective in being a leader because he always demonstrates outstanding customer service and shows the tellers how we can our customer service skills increase our sales for the store. However, its hard for me to get there when my Head Teller currently is so busy focusing on helping out my manager with her work and other peoples work where he doesn’t have time to focus on each teller individually to get recognized. He motivates us when he can but its difficult for him to do so when he is always busy. However, if one day I were to become a Head Teller, the type of leadership I would like to demonstrate is charismatic leadership. I’m someone who does not like to get taken advantage of, and also hate when I see others being taken advantage of because I feel as if everyone is capable enough doing their own work. In order to be successful, you have to learn how to be independent and confident, which basically means holding up your charisma. I know that I’m also a very friendly and outgoing person too like my Head Teller, however, when it comes to someone taking advantage of me that is just something I cannot tolerate. I don’t think my manager would even ask me to help complete work that they haven’t done because they know it’s their responsibility. If I was a Head Teller, I would want to lead my teller team in the right path towards all their goals as fast as possible, rather than focusing on other peoples work that needs to be done. I would spend time recognizing and delegating my tellers in the right direction to make them better. I would want others to know me as an inspirational head teller for the
