My Leadership Philosophy

From the time a student starts school they are taught the dos and don’ts to a successful education. Throughout the years the dos and don’ts adapt to the level of learning the student is in. I think as a student I did a good job with this growing up and do an okay job today. When you’re younger you have the supports of adults that surround you however as an adult it is a bit different. At my point in life I am the support for others and I support myself. You really have to believe in yourself to be able to support yourself. The Leadership skills that you are taught when you were younger are carried into your adult years. These skills grow with the student. As a student knowing what you need to do be a good leader, whether it’s leading yourself or others, I think is key to being successful. Anyone can lead but not everyone can be a good leader. The skills were divided into three areas; technical, human, and conceptual. (p.68) I scored high in human skill which did not surprise me. Human skill is defined as knowledge about and ability to work with people. (Northouse, p.44) With every job or group project I’ve ever had to do I was always able to work well with others and get the work done. My technical skill and conceptual skill both scored as moderate. The technical score did not surprise me but the conceptual score did. Technical skill is defined as working with things and conceptual skill is defined as working with ideas and concepts. (Northouse, p.44) I expected to score a bit higher on conceptual. I thought I did better than moderate when working with ideas and forming them into reality. I plan on improving this. I believe conceptual skill is important because being able to form ideas is key with working in education. I have to be able to form ideas in the classroom and make other ideas a reality in content
