NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct 1. What is the purpose of the NAEYC Code of Conduct? The NAEYC Code of Conduct is like the bible for educators. The code of conduct gives educators guidelines on how to be responsible with the children, their families, colleagues, the community, and society. The NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct provides different guidelines on how and educator should act for resolving the principal ethical dilemmas that might arise in the early childcare setting. The Code of Conduct also includes a statement of commitment which is really not part of the code, but it is a commitment on the willingness of the educator to commit to embrace and focus on the core value of being an educator. 2. As an educator you should be able to provide different learning experiences in which the child can grow and learn. This section explains that in order to be ethical and responsible you should create a loving and nurturing environment in which the child can thrive learning. Section II: Ethical Responsibilities to Families In section II the code of conduct states different ways on how we can better assist families. As educators we should always respect the families wishes. We should constantly be communicating for the child’s wellbeing. Everything done should be at the best interest of the family and child. Everything that goes on with the child at the center, should always be discussed with family members. Confidentiality is a must with every family. Section III: Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues With colleagues we should always respect and learn from one another. Nothing should ever be done to diminish the reputation of the workplace or the reputation of one another. As colleagues sharing resources and helping one another will create a healthy work
