Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, as well as the majority of countries in the Western world. The common diet that most people today eat consists of a plethora of processed foods and fast food, which are loaded with calories and all sorts of detrimental chemicals and preservatives, which are aimed at keeping the food fresh. Adding to the problem is the mere fact that portion size has absolutely gotten out of control. There is an interesting dichotomy present that doesn't quite add up when you consider the fact that we as a population are so heavy and out of shape, yet there is a multi billion dollar diet industry that is absolutely thriving. This can easily lead a person to consider what they have been through and make the internal decision that dieting is not for them, or they simply do not have what it takes to get in shape and become healthy. This is fundamentally wrong and in fact, this mindset is the biggest thing that needs to change, yet is the greatest thing that is overlooked when it comes to health, nutrition, and weight loss.
Many people will get on a diet and many people will succeed. There is no denying the fact that weight loss comes down to a simple caloric equation, in that when you burn more calories than you take in each day, you will lose weight, as your body is in a caloric deficit. For those people that actually do succeed in a diet and hit their weight loss and nutrition goals, this is a huge achievement and is something that should be celebrated. However, that success is going to be short-lived if they do not make a fundamental change in the way that they look at themselves
