I never knew what opportunity looked like until my family immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2000. My parents didn't have the chance to complete school. For that reason, in my family, education has always been treated like a priceless jewel. I grew up with this mindset, and have always believed that education is the key to changing the world for the better. I have overcome many socioeconomic, sociocultural, and family barriers to get to where I am today. I want to inspire my students, show them that they too can break whatever barriers they are facing, and help them learn to believe in themselves. A teacher has the ability to not only teach students a specific subject, but also to shape, inspire, encourage, and support students throughout their time in school. As a first generation high school graduate and college attendee, I plan to use the education I receive at Concordia University to continue Concordia's mission to transform society by working to inspire and make a positive impact on the future generations of the world.
My personal philosophy of education focuses on developing strong student-teacher relationships, setting high expectations for all students, and doing my best to give each and every student, regardless of their background, race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, access to the high- quality education that they deserve.
