My inspiration for aspiring to study Law arose from a conversation with my father over the issue of using violence to get justice. He told me that we should fight our battles on paper which then motivated me to want to become a solicitor and speak for those who can’t do so for themselves.
I have a passion for reading as I am in a book club where I read and analyse books which I know will be useful as studying Law requires a large amount of reading. Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” and WH Auden’s poem “Law is Like Love” has broadened my understanding of how the Law has developed and how it means different things to different people. This had gave me the ability to understand the specific courts for example, all criminal cases will start in the magistrates court which is for minor cases that have been carried. Although, when a serious crime has been committed then the case would take place in the Crown Court. I also looked at a case which I applied the law of nusicance and the rule in Rylands V Fletcher which was about the offenders employing independent contractors to construct a reservoir on their land. What I have learned from this case was that in the law there is a difference between things that grow or take place naturally on the land. I was given safeguarding training beforehand for healthy and safety and taught how to deal with deaf and blind children,which is a useful life skill. I have shown good communication skills, learnt how to stay calm in difficult situations and how to react and respond to conflicts. These skills along with my debating skills will help me stay calm and react positively when I don’t agree with something as I know many aspects of the Law are controversial. Whilst also regularly volunteering at open days, induction days and parents evenings at my College, I have established excellent communication skills. Playing chess has also given me the ability to
