My lifetime goal is to help others through service. Serving others and improving the community is a fundamental duty that I believe should be a part of everyone’s personal mission. Initially, I began my high school academic career seeking elective classes that would help me discover service opportunities. The healthcare profession is the path that I discovered as an ideal way to accomplish this goal of service. In particular, I intend to eventually become an anesthesiologist where I will assist patients during medical procedures. Furthermore, I have selected academic and extracurricular activities that have prepared me for a path toward medical school. One example of the community service occurred as a result of my desire to help a local hospital. I uncovered a junior volunteer opportunity at the Medical Center of McKinney. For example, in AP Calculus BC, I recognized that several classmates were struggling with the complex concepts. My desire was to help them succeed; therefore, I decided to organize a study group. I possessed a great understanding of the material and was enthused to assist others in improving their understanding. This experience was very fulfilling and prompted me to seek other opportunities to tutor students. I subsequently submitted an application for my high school’s Friday Night Live, Student Tutor and Role Model (STAR) program. This program involves spending afternoons tutoring freshman and sophomores in their academic studies. I was blessed to be one of the few applicants selected.
