Ever since the time I earned my first 50 cents for helping around the house, I became captivated by the idea and dream of having a degree in finance and eventually working in finance. Now, 12 years down the line, I am working hard to make that dream a reality. I find myself looking back on how little I knew back then, and how I have grown and broadened my knowledge of the world of finance and accounting.

Math has always been a favorite subject of mine, through primary school to college. Math is a key skill required in finance, and my ability in math, I feel, will be the foundation of my career in finance and accounting as it is a core requirement. . Reading articles and chapters, such as the ones in these books and magazines, further motivate me in the area of Finance, as I strive to be someone, who may, one day, be able to devise solutions for the financial and economical issues we currently face. Outside of my education I work part time at an ice- cream shop. Working in this environment has not only given me responsibility but has also given me the confidence to deal with customers in varying situations. A key skill that I have developed through my time at the ice cream is teamwork. I am able to work as part of a team successfully, or if need be, to use my own initiative and work as an individual I have gained many transferable skills such as communication, leadership and numeracy which I believe would be useful not only during my degree but in any future placements that may arise in the future. I also spend any other free time assisting my aunt, who works as an accountant, a job I have considered many time. From this I have gained experience, and learnt even more about this subject. I feel that this will also help me with my studies, because I have understood the world of work, and everyday challenges presented when working in this field.

Even though I find myself occupied with studies and work, I make sure I balance my time so that I can participate in extra-curriculum activities. Tennis and volleyball are two sports that I have played since I was a young girl, and I have participated in many tournaments, supporting my team in volleyball and winning matches in tennis. I feel that engaging in these sports has helped develop my team working skills, and my interest in karate has taught me discipline and control, and has strengthened me as a
