I have found myself to be rooted deep down with my christian ministry group Chi Alpha. We are a group of students that seeks to make relationships within our religion of christianity in order to form a loving community for myself and many others to be a part of. Recently, I have found myself to be useful when it comes to running the soundboard at our worship and collaboration nights where I come in early in order to set up chords and mix the worship band as they practice. This has been an excellent experience as I have been able to keep up my love for music as the same time of attending university. My active participation to this after class activity has developed who I am as a person.
I have a heart for community service which led to participating in city-wide advocacy campaigns. One of the initiatives was advocating with the Alliance for Quality Education for Universal Pre-K in New York City. I travelled to Albany, NY to participate in an education rally and spoke with my assemblyman Herman Farrell, on behalf of the families of New York City, to gain his support for UPK. Within a year the initiative was approved, and the following school year the UPK program was implemented. As a leader in the social justice ministry of my church I coordinated a Sunday, with the New York City Department of Education representatives, which allowed them to speak to our congregation of over 9,000 members, and enroll children into pre-kindergarten the same day.
In our community, I always strive to help others and the environment, and the people all around. I have assisted in the community cleanup at my local library and also the garbage cleanup at the beach. These actions that I have made helped shape my amazing experience at Wisdom Lane Middle School and they will help me shape my future for the better. These actions helped me build great relationships with the teachers in my school and even the principal. These pillars have helped me succeed in my three years of middle school and help me prepare for the rest of my years no matter what school I go to.
Volunteering time at church and school have become a major part of what I do. The youth group I belong to at St. Thomas UCC collects items and put together hygiene bags for the YWCA. For school, I often volunteer to help with the bands, working in the kitchen for Indoor Drumline shows and helping to set up the Craft Show. I also assist my classmates if they request it. If a student is absent, I will take responsibility to send them notes they may have missed in class, and also what they homework is so they can attempt to do it.
Because of the Young Women's Auxiliary, I have had opportunities to show gratitude and fruitfulness toward my elders and peers. The YWA sponsors several events in my hometown, such as breast cancer walks, community gatherings, and visiting the ill within the community to praise and worship with them. Additionally, at the Sunday School Institute, I was able to work alongside my peers as we taught younger children Bible verses and praise and worship songs. The key purpose of the Sunday School Institute is to influence and inspire children to be more open minded and outgoing about their love for God. I am able to help do so by being an example for the children and a role model to them.
Opening Statement: I will introduce my topic by having an introductory slide showing artwork of the miracles which have occurred within various different cultures. In doing so, it will provide a broad spectrum as to what I will be discussing. These pictures will resemble my statement that all religions and cultures have experienced some form of miraculous event. Secondly, I will state that there are well known and scarcely known miracles within many different faiths as well. By showing these images, the class is able to gain a certain perspective about the variety of miracles I will be discussing as the presentation continues.
During my time at Dawson College, I took part in the CEGEP's social and community involvement for the course of three semesters. I volunteered at the first aid team and at the Dawson daycare center to gain experience in taking care of different people. My passion has always been to help others and to work with children. Interacting with children in the daycare triggered me to pursue my dream of taking care of young people, and what better way to fulfill those dreams than by becoming a kindergarten teacher and taking part in helping shape our future generations? Being a teacher requires a lot of patience; therefore, volunteering in the daycare helped me learn to be patient and be more understanding because every child is raised differently and all people have different stories.
I altar serve at my church I regularly attend. I also have served at various church dinners and aided at the vacation bible school program the church hosts. I have been an officer and an avid member of the Bastress Community 4-H club. I also was a member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Youth Leadership program and worked towards a social change project to better our community. I am a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and have qualified and competed at the state level competition in Hershey, PA for three consecutive years.
First of all, I place a great emphasis on service. God mentions helping others in the Bible multiple times, and I consider this crucial. Because of this, I have made it a part of my daily life. Sometimes it is as simple as talking to someone, while other times I must travel to poverty-stricken areas or volunteer my time to work at homeless shelters.
Christian School Education has always been dear to my heart and a special root I have always wanted to reintegrate into my life. I regret not going to a Christian college and I regret not pursuing my dream of a Christian education career sooner, but here I am now trying to make something that almost seems unattainable a reality. As an educator, I believe that we should foster children as a whole including developing their relationship with God. I would love to create a learning environment that is centered on Christ and nurtures spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth among students.
Throughout my three years of being in St. Thomas Aquinas High School, I have participated in a few different acts of service. For every year in my high school career, I did service at my old elementary and middle school, All Saints Catholic School. During Presidents’ Day weekend, I provided help at their Church’s carnival for four days--Thursday to Sunday. All Saints Catholic School’s mission statement states “The Mission of All Saints Catholic School is to provide an atmosphere rich in the Catholic faith where each child is challenged to grow in a safe environment.
Personal Statement I believe that each child is unique and that all diversities should be accepted and empowered. Teaching students that everyone is different and that these differences should be welcomed and not judged provides for a safe and welcoming environment in a school and classroom setting. I also believe that students should be able to come to their teachers as well as faculty with their thoughts and feelings. Students should feel empowered, and we should push students to become advocates for their education and teach to each students’ abilities. Education is crucial in pushing students towards higher education after school as well as providing the stepping stones to prepare students for jobs in the real world.
I understand that this commitment invites me to live my life in a way that honors God and the community where God has placed me. I understand that as an ordained person I will be in a leadership role and therefore looked upon by others as a representative of the church and Christian faith. I consider this to be a great honor and an even greater responsibility. I dedicate my life to witness to the Gospel and commit my entire self, including my body, mind and spirit, to wholeness and wellness. I will make emotional and mental maturity my number one priority.
Personal Faith Statement Growing up as a kid, my life almost completely revolved around school. I believed good grades would bring me success, and success is the center of life. My family’s Buddhism background taught me to hold a high standard of moral behavior and hope to build merit for eternity. Soon when I started living in the U.S., I realized how needy and weak I really am. Suddenly, the unfamiliar environment restricted me from exploring anything.
