I personally believe that animals should have the same rights as humans. We ourselves tend to treat our animals like children. I notice adults are very sensitive when it comes to child abuse, but to me animal abuse is the same. From personal situations that I have seen working at a vet animal abuse is just as bad. I believe people should be trialed the same as child abuse for animal abuse. We ourselves need to learn that just because animals cannot talk does not mean that they do not have rights. The types of animal cruelty tend to increase daily. Most animal abuse cases come from abandonment or malnourishment. Nearly 75% of 500 million dogs are out on the street. There is actually more animal abuse than what the world says there are. We have several more types of animal cruelty including breeding farms, research labs, etc. Abandonment is one of the huge factors in animal cruelty. People think just because they do not want them any more means they just need to drop them off. What happens if someone did that to a child and got caught? There is absolutely no excuse for malnourishment. If this happened to a child it would be a very serious crime. This is a time when animals need someone to take responsibility for what they have done. A personal story that happened right here at our local vet was a neighbor was very upset that a dog was in her yard that was not hers so she took it among herself to pour scolding hot water on the dog and burn its skin completely off. She was not trialed and got away with it completely. There is nothing more we could do other than bring it to the police. How fair is that for an animal?
