What is animal testing? Does it help manage the chemicals that go into the things we consume? What really goes on in those laboratories? Animals used in laboratories are deliberately harmed, not for their own good, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. For the beauty community and for many consumers this issue is not stressed enough, but using these animals for the benefit of humans is unjust, inhumane, and has a grave effect on people’s well being. Learning about this issue and becoming aware of what goes on, who does it, and what can be done is a great way to stop this cruelty and hope for no cruelty on innocent animals. While 80% of the world still allows animal testing for cosmetics, roughly half of the global cosmetic market is now firmly closed to animal tested cosmetics. According to The Huffington Post, “A March 2015 Nielsen survey found that “not tested on animals” was the most important packaging claim among those surveyed. The same survey also found that consumers placed a high level of importance on products labeled “all natural,” - a reflection of the growing consumer scrutiny of ingredients in cosmetic products”(Engebretson, Huffington Post).
