Animal research has lead to some very groundbreaking scientific strides in the past couple years, and since we share 95% of our genes with a mouse, this testing can be very helpful to our health. Animals also suffer from the same diseases as some people, so the research is not only beneficial to humans, but animals too. This research is also the main thing veterinary science has relied on for their treatment of animals. Also, many surgical advances have been made by perfecting the procedures first on animals, then on humans; such as the hip replacement surgery. MRI and CT scans were also developed on animals in order to be used on humans later. Mice have also lead to the cancer survival rate continually increasing, as well as AIDS no longer being a death sentence. Now, 97% of UK animal testing consists of mice, rats, fish, and birds. Household cats kill around five million animals every week, which is …show more content…
Unfortunately, the difference between humans and animals lies in the way their environment affects their behavior. In Vitro testing is sometimes regarded as even more accepted and effective than animal testing itself, along with being way more ethically sound. This is also way less expensive, and can save a lot of animals from death without meaning. Many of the tests that happen to animals end up inconclusive and a fair amount of animals who are tested on end up dying. Because of the cosmetic use for animals declining, new tests are being used to show tests and side effects of makeup and other products without using an animal. The pharmaceutical side of testing is not as easy, however. Some drugs currently must be tested on a whole organism in order to see how a living body handles the effects and if the drug is useful to humans and illness. While animals are not humans, it is still important to see how a living organism reacts to the
