In today's day and age, advancements in technology are occurring at a rapid pace. One use of this newly developed technology is the cloning of animals. This process is being thought of primarily for pet owners, to create exact duplicates of their beloved pets. However, this practice should not be allowed because the cloning process is imperfect, there are already millions of animals waiting to be adopted, and unique characteristics are not transferable to the cloned animal.
As great as technology may appear to be, not everything is foolproof. The process of cloning animals is a prime example of this idea. Scientists have yet to discover a safe and effective way to clone animals. Instead, the current process possesses a large margin of error. Risks associated with cloning animals include, but are not limited to: birth defects, genetic abnormalities, and immune system deficiencies. This being said, it would be unfair or even cruel to subject any animal to a life of pain and suffering for the benefit of others. Due to overcrowding and a general lack of resources to care for these animals, shelters are often forced to euthanize them. By choosing to clone animals as opposed to adopting from a local shelter, people are taking away life saving opportunities from these potential pets. Certainly adopting an animal from the shelter wouldn’t replace the void left after losing a pet. But, it would allow grieving owners a chance to cope with this loss by creating new bonds with a new animal. This would also benefit the community as a whole by taking animals off of the streets and into a loving home. Altogether, choosing adoption over cloning pets is a more practical option due to the overwhelming number of animals already without
