However, committing a crime comes with consequences. As a death row inmate they shouldn’t be content with living in a cell, but some are. Some are fine with getting fed three times a day, getting time to workout, and even making friends with other inmates. Being on death row should be a punishment, and unfortunately the animals are being punished instead of the prisoners. My opinion is that a murderer or rapist does not deserve to get off easy, and I personally think that being sentenced to living in a cell is not enough punishment. Animals are some of the most pure things in the world, and most would say it is a crime to be hurting them. Death row inmates are going to die anyway, whereas an animal could be spared the effects of medical testing. Also, getting to test inmates would help research more be more accurate on a human. This could help research grow and find new medicine faster. Additionally, harming animals is a crime so it only makes sense to punish people who have already committed a crime. There is no reason animals should be harmed for drug testing when there are other resources that could be used. While testing on death row inmates is certainly a controversial issues, I believe the benefits outweigh the moral issues of testing on humans. Death row inmates have lost any rights they previously had because of their criminal actions. These inmates could serve the greater good by helping researchers develop cures for diseases which kill thousands of Americans each year. The innocent animals would be spared from the unknown effects of medical testing. In addition, testing on humans would be more accurate and also faster than testing new treatments on animals. In conclusion, I believe there are many arguments which support the idea that death row inmates should be used for medical research. Maybe one day we will have a cure to cancer as a result of testing on prison
