Marriage is a human right not a privilege among heterosexuals. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual and Questioning (LGBTQ) community should have equal rights, such as same-sex marriage, adoption, and overall freedom like heterosexuals. The fact is that they’re human and can live life the way they want. That is one of the perks of being an American. Everyone should have the same freedom and rights no matter their sexual orientation. Marriage typically has always been between a man and a woman. When you think of America what word comes to mind, “freedom,” which at times doesn’t seem like it.

One of those things include Financial gain to help increase the economy. According to an announcement by the “Mayor of New York, gay marriage had contributed $259 million to the city’s economy since the practice became legal there in July 2011” (Michael Bloomberg 1). This means that now that everyone can be married the state is making more money. This only proves that the amount of financial gain will continue to increase each year due to the legalizing of same-sex marriage. Most importantly the acceptance of same-sex marriages will help increase the number of children getting adopted. Since same-sex couples cannot reproduce this will lead them to adopt children who need a home. As many agencies will reject to people who are not married legally. This will reduce children going to orphanages, and giving them love and shelter as a “normal family” would. Also, parental sexual orientation has zero relation with the quality of parenting a child. Children don’t care who you love they just want a family that loves them and to be able to call theirs. Same-sex couples are competent in being parents, just like heterosexuals. Additionally, it will be good for the society and for people to see diversity. The more people see same-sex couples with children, the more aware people will become. Furthermore, some will argue that homosexuality is not a proper for a home with children. As a “traditionally family” there has always been a mother and a father but times have changed. Many still have the image of the traditional family which consist of a man and a woman. Opponents may state that the marriage institution should apply only to unions between a woman and a man. Also, many say that children will be affected by allowing same-sex couples. According to an article published by Washingtonpost “children of same-sex couples are happier and healthier than peers, research shows” (Bever 1). As a result of
