Although I believe there should be a better system in place for a citizen to purchase a gun; I also believe the government should not take them away. We have many more guns than anywhere in the world and yet we have the weakest gun laws. The media loves to portray this concept of “gun control”, however it’s the person who buys guns we need to control. Our right to carry guns should not override the fact that the government needs to be more strict on those who are purchasing them. We are all aware that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. This is why I know it is important for our continued safety that the government needs to be more involved in the process.

Now, if you want to open carry you do require by the state to have a concealed gun license. Unfortunately, the renewal update for this is seven years. In seven years a lot can happen to someone. Perhaps, someone goes through a traumatic experience and then becomes mentally ill. This person can be able to walk into a shop a purchase a gun with no problem. Here is the flaw in the law. I believe that no matter what or when, if you walk into a shop to purchase a weapon that you should be background checked immediately. For certain the government can even create a database in which they can account people of purchases or those who come up flagged by a medical reason. I understand that the medical field have a hipaa compliance to abide by, however in order to maintain a safe environment in our country we should be able to blur that line a bit. I’m no IT major, but this is one method I can come up with. I also believe that our gun laws should be at a federal level and not a state law, All gun laws should be the same throughout the United States in order to ensure better control of these weapons.
