Moving Out of Middle School It is human nature to dislike or resist change. A huge change that exists in education is the transition for middle school to high school. Many students struggle with transitioning into high school because of the lack of preparation that the school systems make for students. In the article it gives ways that the school can improve student transitioning into high school. The ultimate goal of transitioning successfully is to require the middle and high school faculty to make a plan (Mizelle, 2005).

Fox Middle School in Maryland created a special interdisciplinary curriculum (Mizelle, 2005). Elbert County Middle School in Georgia constructed a Delta Program (Mizelle, 2005). The Delta Program is creating a “hands-on, life-related learning activities, integrated instruction, and cooperative learning groups” into a child’s educational career (Mizelle, 2005, p. 2). Also, Sunrise Middle School in Philadelphia was involved with a community leaders program (Mizelle, 2005). This is a major problem in school all around the United States. A negative transition can create detrimental effects on the adolescent such as dropping out of school, lack of positive relations, and lower grades. That is why it is crucial for educators to create a plan for a better transitional experience into high school and this article gives them strategies to help student have a better experience transitioning . I experience this first hand when I was a middle school student transitioning into high school. Due to the educators’ lack of preparing me socially, emotionally, and physically this experience was very miserable. Throughout my first year of high school I looked into transferring or home school option because I could not figure out how to be successful as a high student.
