My knowledge of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. is that it was founded January 5th, 1911. The Fraternity was originally chartered under the name Kappa Alpha Nu, which is believed to be in honor the Alpha Kappa Nu club that began in 1903 but was short lived due to few registrants. Kappa Alpha Psi was founded by: Elder Watson Diggs, Ezra Dee Alexander, Byron Kenneth Armstrong, Henry Tourner Asher, Marcus Peter Blakemore, Paul Waymond Caine, George Wesley Edmonds, Guy Levis Grant, Edward Giles Irvin and John Milton Lee. The fraternity was founded on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. has 721 chapters in every state of the United States and has international chapter in various countries
The tenth National President, Dorothy I. Height, wrote: “To preserve tradition, we must bring it into the current decade and make sure it remains viable for decades to come.” Protocol is something mandatory for all sorority’s and fraternity’s. In Delta Sigma Theta protocol is prescribed as respect and recognition for founders, the Nation President and Past National Presidents, the Regional Director/Representative, Chapter Charter Members, and Honorary Members. It is a fact that every Sorority and Fraternity has some type of tradition. In Delta Sigma Theta there are three rites of passage.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Community Service on January 13th 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 collegiate women previous members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. left the organization after wanting to change the direction of the sorority including the name, colors, motto, creed, and the shield. These 22 women wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need. After the idea was rejected by Graduate chapter member Nellie Quander and other graduate members they reorganized under their own sorority known as Delta Sigma Theta. Within that same year Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. participated in their first public
I wanted join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. sense my sophomore year of college. I want to have the brotherhood to help me grow intellectually, socially and intellectually. All these things I want and support I have seen in various moment through my experience with the brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
Kappa Alpha Psi was founded on the campus of Indiana University by Elder Watson Diggs, Byron Kenneth Armstrong and eight other courageous and intelligent individuals on January 5th, 1911. During a time of racial inequality and segregation, those members were forced to create a vision and in that vision, it would become a strong bond and brotherhood. At that time they were amongst a society who would cast out anyone who differed from them. The purpose was created to achieve and despite the many obstacles, they continued to fight for equal education at Indiana University. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. gives young adults and elders the chance to help the youth with future endeavors.
Although our organization’s extensive history of academic accomplishment, the previous year was particularly one in terms of academic improvement. At the start of the 2016 year, our fraternity’s Academic Committee, led by our organization’s Vice President of Development, implemented new academic policies and helped modify academic improvement plans for each individual member. We believe the changes to the new academic policies will help us improve our GPA. The improvement plans set for each member focused on
Kappa Kappa Gamma provides a supportive environment to encourage academic excellence, develop leadership skills, cultivate social responsibility and celebrate individual diversity. We are happy
I can contribute my knowledge of social justice and ability to be a community servant to this organization. My long-term life goal is to become a hospital owner in multiple underrepresented areas and foreign countries. Being a community servant, one can build character while helping open doors or provide opportunities for those who are less fortunate. I’ve read the many articles of the large groups of Alpha men graduating from Meharry Medical College, that have had such a huge impact on the surrounding communities by giving a helping hand when needed. It’s the small things that count and makes me eager to join the previous groups of male leaders striving to achieve their goals, which defy all odds against
It isn’t until a leader has follower that he can distinguish himself from others in the world. I have unknown weaknesses and I believe Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has exploited those weaknesses during IMDP and I’ve improved as a man. Why did I inspire to become a man of Alpha? I wanted to associate myself with the best of the best and that’s the image of our prestigious organization. Also, excelling in an academic setting has always been something I believed in.
As the new face of the governing body for all sorority chapters at Lafayette, it was my responsibility to take action. After compiling critiques from the greater Lafayette community and observations of my own, I realized that Greek Life as a whole was a deeply flawed system in need of reform. Perhaps the most obvious flaw with Greek Life is that it was built on the foundations of exclusivity with limited focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Greek organizations have historically maintained strict membership criteria catering to white, straight, cisgender, and affluent students, thus creating divisions on campuses and alienating individuals who do not fit said criteria. While Greek Life can create a sense of camaraderie and belonging for members, it is imperative to ensure that these organizations abandon their roots in exclusivity and continue to evolve as inclusive spaces.
They participated in the service of the same bands we currently serve while establishing programming, funding, and innovative methodology which still influences our organization, and we must not forget their impact as bandsmen, leaders, and brothers. Therefore, maintaining strong alumni relations is essential, and I hope to expand our communication to further develop a sense of brotherhood between our active, alumni, and life members. I plan to reignite an interest in Kappa Kappa Psi through the encouragement to reconnect with Beta Kappa, their home chapter. Not only will I utilize our alumni Facebook group, among other channels of communication, to inform and remind alumni of current activities, I wish to gather their stories, experiences, and perspectives from their time as active brothers to use our similar experiences as members of Beta Kappa to bridge the divide caused by graduation. Also, I wish to set time to honor our alumni brothers for their postgraduate accomplishments, as honoring outstanding bandsmen should not stop after
Why do you want to join Kappa Alpha Psi? Have you ever felt isolated, or how about separated from something that you wish for on the regular. I’m talking about an unbreakable bond that you share with a group or friends. Only I wouldn’t call it an friendship because those fade. I’m talking about an everlasting brotherhood.
“The chief significance of Alpha Phi Alpha lies in its purpose to stimulate, develop, and cement an intelligent, trained leadership in the unending fight for freedom, equality, and fraternity. Our task is endless.” Jewel Henry Arthur Callis. Since its founding Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has remained loyal to its ideal of providing advocacy for its community.

In Sigma Kappa, I found a sisterhood full of girls who truly are examples of excellence. I remember looking up to Taylor Haynes and even Kat Gillanders for their leadership around campus, and the level with which they carried themselves. I am proud that the girls of Sigma Kappa can walk around UGA without people thinking “look at that trashy sorority girl”. A big role in this is what the Standards Council does. It is important to have a program to steer college students in the right way when they start to go down a negative path.
