RBC Mission Statement

This statement works to not only as an introduction, but it also reinforces the mission statement. The words of an actual person of authority within the company echoing the sentiment of the mission statement imparts a better impression of truth and sincerity to it.

I have selected two examples of specific activities that support RBC’s mission statement commitment to building a better future, they are the RBC Generator and RBC Kids Pledge.

RBC Generator is a $10 million lending fund established to specifically serve small and startup phase businesses that address social and environmental challenges. While the RBC mission statement is fully dedicated to its commitment to community improvement, its Vision, Values and Goals statement is fully dedicated to the financial and business aspects of its existence. I believe that the measure of overlap between the messages of mission statement and the Vision, Values and Goals statement would impart some continuity to the overall direction that these statements provide to the workforce and the consumer. The second opportunity for improvement I have identified is the continued publication of The RBC Letter. The RBC Letter was a monthly publication that ran for 88 years, from 1920 through 2008. RBC Letter not only addressed expected topics such as financial literacy and retirement planning, but also a wide range of socially important topics such as mental health, volunteerism, and environmental protection. The physical publication of this periodical was stopped in favor of including these discussions digitally via the RBC website. (RBC Letter. 2015. www.rbc.com) Although the reach of the digital platform is larger, I believe the production of a physical periodical would be more valuable. A bank website is not the first place people think to find social commentary.
