The company I selected to review is American Standard Company. The mission statement of American Standard Company is to “Be the best in the eyes of our customers, employees and shareholders.” As I learned from the readings this week an effective mission statement should have emotional components that incite employees and delight customers, along with answering the questions, ‘who we are and what we value’ (Flat World, n.d.). Before I even looked online I could see that there are some areas that could be improved with this mission statement immediately. I did not need to do much review to find them. The first one is that I had no idea who we, meaning they, are which is the first question that a mission statement should answer. After visiting it at http://www.americanstandard-us.com/companyinfo/, I found this listed at the top of the page, “At American Standard it all begins with our unmatched legacy of quality and innovation that has lasted for more than 140 years. It is this tradition of quality and innovation that puts us in three out of five homes in America, as well as, countless hotels, airports, and stadiums. We provide the style and performance that fit perfectly into life, wherever that may be.” I found that although this statement supports the vague mission that they described it fails to tell readers again who they are. As a potential consumer I do not feel driven or protected by either the mission of the supporting information I am finding online. As a stakeholder I find the information appealing because American Standard is boasting about their desirability and this would make me feel secure financially to support them, but that is the only information I could find appealing on this page. Employees are not mentioned or referenced in any form. That made me question the value they feel for
