Reflective Essay: My Avoidable Mistakes In My Writing

Reflecting on the paper and your comments, I see a lot of avoidable mistakes that could’ve been prevented. I realize some issues with citations, grammars and sentence structures. Complex, long and convoluted ideas in any paper can create confusion. The paper has taught me the importance to use available resource, to have an outline and to take into account time-management. One resource that would help me to improve my writing in my nursing career and in the future is the writing center. At the beginning of the class, you mentioned the benefit of using the writing center throughout the program. I failed to do so for this paper. Your comments show clearly that I failed to follow the paper’s direction. In order to avoid being vague is to be more engaged by being specific about the task to be completed. Paying attention to details and focus on the questions asked along with my writing style, grammar and spelling. Another area that needs my attention is the length of each sentence. Long sentences can submerge my audience and lose the sense of the arguments. There is a saying that goes like this “the biggest room in the house is room for improvement”. Having an outline would’ve helped me to organize my thoughts by making sure that my main point is clearly and strongly state in a manner to convey a concise message. That way I could have a sense of control which would allow me to better integrate my ideas at the beginning to the end. Developing an outline with a thesis serve as a “roadmap” to build a writing plan. By so doing, the information will be presented in a more logical manner and help me stayed focused on the topic. In similar fashion, an outline supports the fluidity and the direction of the essay and make it more achievable. It will serve as a guide in following the required instructions, the structure of the essay and what my reader should
