William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564. When he was young scholars said that he might have attended King`s New School in Stratford, England. On November 28, 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. They had their first child Susanna on May 26, 1583. On February 2, 1585, they had twins Hamnet and Judith. Hamnet died at age 11 due to unknown causes. After the birth of his twins there is a 7-year gap where no records exist, this was called “lost years”. In the 1590`s Shakespeare was a managing partner in the Lord Chamberlain's Men, an acting company in London. Though Shakespeare was known for being a poet and a playwright, he was also an actor. Romeo, the son of Montague, runs into his cousin Benvolio, who saw Romeo moping around earlier. After Benvolio starts talking to Romeo, Romeo confesses that he is in love with a girl named Rosaline, a girl that does not return affections for Romeo. Benvolio then tells Romeo to find a better prettier girl. While that is happening Paris, a family member of the Prince, asks for Juliet’s hand in marriage. Juliet’s father Capulet like the match, but tells Paris to wait two years because Juliet is not even fourteen. Then Capulet sends out invitations to his annual masquerade ball. Romeo, seeing Rosaline’s name on the list, decides to go to the party. Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio (Benvolio’s friend) go to the ball at the Capulet’s house. Once inside Romeo sees Juliet across the room and instantly falls in love with her. Romeo then talks to Juliet and the both feel a very strong attraction to each other. Without even knowing each other’s name they kiss. When Romeo later finds out that Juliet is a Capulet he becomes upset. As Benvolio and Mercutio are leaving Romeo goes over to the orchid wall. While there he sees Juliet, and calls out to her, they soon exchange vows of love. Romeo then finds Friar Laurence who agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret. The next day Romeo and Juliet are married. The day after Benvolio and Mercutio encounter Tybalt (Juliet’s cousin) whom is still mad from the ball. He then challenges Romeo to a duel. Romeo begs Tybalt to not duel him, instead Mercutio says he will duel Tybalt. Tybalt then stabs Mercutio, Romeo becomes enraged and kills Tybalt. The Prince of Verona then kicks Romeo out of the country. That night Romeo sneaks into Juliet’s room and they make love. When morning comes the lovers say goodbye knowing that they might never see each other again. Her father then says that she has to marry Paris in three days. Because of this Juliet
