Animal testing is a very serious issue, considering the fact that it kills one-hundred thousand to two-hundred thousand animals each year (“About”). Many companies do not believe that animal testing is a serious problem and find that there are other important issues to worry about. The FDA believes that animal tests should be replaced with other tests that do not involve the use of animals because of the harm it causes them (“Animal Testing and Cosmetics”). Animals have emotions and feelings just as humans do, even though they are not always noticeable. The FDA does not object to animal testing because they believe that whatever is needed to verify that a product is safe for consumers should be done (“Animal Testing and Cosmetics”). Animals and humans are also thought to be a lot a like, so this makes people think that animal testing is even more reliable (“Animal Testing”). Animals are also thought to have no rights, because they are not able to speak or show any emotions (“Animal Testing”). This makes them thought of as great test subjects even though they have feelings just like humans do. Animal testing is not required in the United States so there is no reason that it should be used, considering the fact that many alternative methods are available (“Animal Testing”). Animal testing is also very slow and expensive, so it is quicker to use already existing products than going through more testing (Morgan and Locke). Animals have many different characteristics from humans, therefore, they do not always guarantee that the products being sold are 100% safe (“Animal Testing”). Penicillin, which is a very popular drug that helps fight certain illnesses was discovered without the use of animals (“Forty”). Lush has always stood against animal testing and believed that their products should be tested on human volunteers, because it provides more reliable results (Nick). They believe that products should not be tested on animals when they have been around for millions of years and their effects are already known (Nick). Nick stated that he is vegan and does not use any products that involve harming animals (Nick). He also stated that he believes the best way to end animal testing is for our government to realize that it is not required and that even though they are not always accounted for, animals have emotions too (Nick). Lush is a luxury brand that uses very high-end ingredients to create their products (Nick). They only use ingredients that are fresh and ethical to the environment, so even though people pay more for their products, they are getting higher benefits as well (Nick).
