Imagine being a child with autism, think of what you would have to go through. Not being able to express how you feel or not being able to be understood. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a serious brain development disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. Autism happens to be one of the four major developmental disorders, autism occurs in one in every 110 births. Along with that, Autism Spectrum Disorder causes problems in social interactions. There are so many different levels and types of Autism and so many different challenges that children with Autism face. Some might say children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) should be taught in a mainstream setting because they are just as normal as everyone else and it is not fair to have them left out. However, some studies show that those at the lower scale of the ASD spectrum should not be taught in mainstream schools because social interactions are a challenge, school is difficult for them, and children with autism face different challenges than other students.

There are three different types of Autism. One being Autism Disorder which includes language delays, social and communication challenges along with unusual behaviors and interests. Another type of Autism would be Asperger syndrome which include milder symptoms but social challenges and unusual behaviors. The third type is Pervasive Development Disorder which just includes social and communication challenges. With that being said, being taught in a mainstream school setting could be hard depending on the level of autism. One who has the higher type of Autism could be taught in mainstream schools because they do not have the same symptoms as the lower type so they could understand better and one might have better social interactions and communication
