Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has influenced me in many ways. First, it was the school's amazing nursing program. The school of nursing was established in 1953 and it awards undergraduates the bachelor of science degree. WSSU’s nursing program was ranked number 3 in the nation, and is continuing to grow and enhance the program. I have been given the chance to get into the nursing program, with the help from the Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP).

I personally believe that UNC Wilmington will allow me to grow academically as a student as well as an adult. Being from a small town in Maine I have always been the type of person to try new things and live to the fullest. When I decided to go to college, my mind was set on staying close to home my first year and getting the feel of what it is like. I strongly feel I am a very independent person and enjoy the challenges of doing things on my own. I have changed my mind many times on a career path I wish to pursue I don’t find it easy for someone my age to know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life.

Before furthering my education here at San Jose State University, I wasn’t sure what my interest and career path I wanted. Although I did always want to go into the law enforcement field, I was never sure exactly what I wanted to include myself in that field. As I began my career here at SJSU I developed an interest in the criminal justice system, more specifically in the field of law. I followed my interest and join clubs such as the Pre-Law Society club here at SJSU. Through this club I got the opportunity to meet and sit in panels on law students including Alan Adkisson.
Don’t censor To Kill a Mockingbird Rosa Parks once said, “Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome.” In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird the author Harper Lee uses the n-word 48 times and negro 54 times. This alone could cause readers to feel uncomfortable, along with the vulgar language and references to sexual activities. Some people may think that the best solution to these problems are to take out these words and censor the whole book.

The LLOs that best help us to achieve this focus are communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Communicating is a very important part of productive work because it lays the basics for strong communication to be built upon. If there is poor communication productive work cannot be achieved.
After graduating from MHS, the next challenge in my mission to ascend from my circumstances was to become the best student at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). With consideration of my mother not graduating high school, it was imperative and self- driving that I reward her sacrifices by excelling in my academic career. Eager to outperform, consequently, I earned the Smeal Merit Diversity Scholarship for three consecutive years (Freshmen-Junior) at Penn State. This prestigious scholarship is only awarded to the top five minority business students at Penn State. In addition to my academic successes, I became very active on campus and served as a leader at the top of four different campus-organizations.

As an African American female planning to attend college, it is critical that I understand the history of fellow African American individuals and the importance of our history. As a result, it has prompt me to apply for the Omega Psi Phi scholarship due to the fact that it can both aid in financing my education, and allow me the opportunity to acknowledge and understand the struggles and perseverance of past African American leaders who made a difference in the lives of others. Often times as youths, we tend to forget our history and how we got to where we are. However, with this scholarship, it has helped me to not only remember but to remember with pride. It helps me remember with pride because some of the students who were part of the Omega Fraternity fought for social justice by joining in “sit-ins”, along with several civil rights demonstration in an attempt to fight for justice and equality.

Just as any other ordinary college student, I decided to enroll into Georgia Southern University to further my education. During my senior year of high school, I was given the opportunity to complete seventeen hours at Southern, and I loved taking classes here. I decided to stay in my hometown of Statesboro, rather than transfer, and I do not regret my decision! School has always been important to me, and every day new discoveries are made, so there is so much to learn. While attending Georgia Southern, I will be majoring in marketing; in the future, I want to use my degree as a marketing manager.
