Teaching Philosophy Statement

Adults ask children throughout their lives what they want to be when they grow up. When I was in the third grade I figured it out; teaching. It was then that I realized learning can be a fun and exciting experience with a great teacher. I also knew that I wanted to be able to share my love for learning with others. A way that I found to be able to experience what working with children is like is by volunteering my time at the YMCA’s volunteer daycare program. When I decided that I wanted to become a teacher when I grew up it was in the third grade. My third grade teacher is the one who inspired be to want to become a teacher. She was extremely passionate about her career and helping children learn and grow. Being a teacher meant having a great impact on them, like she has done with me. Personally, teaching means using what students are passionate about to make learning genuine and real. As well as letting students know that they matter, and that they are more than capable of making a difference in the world. I also believe that teachers need to be able to handle challenging students, as well as challenge students at the same time. It has played a role because of the opportunities that it has given me to work with children. Since I’ve started volunteering my time at the YMCA’s volunteer daycare program I’ve fallen more in love with my passion to become a teacher; as well as help kids learn what they are passionate about. Volunteering with children was amazing; they’re just so full of life and are eager to learn about the world around them. Working with those kids at the YMCA also inspired me all over again and reminded me why I wanted to become a teacher in the first place; to inspire, to help kids learn and grow, and to help them find out what they are passionate about
