I believe it is important to show students love and help them feel connected to their peers and teacher. The teacher must create a need-satisfying classroom for the students to feel connected. This means the teacher must be in control of her classroom. If the teacher is in control, the students will receive clear instructions and will choose to behave appropriately. A relationship between the teacher and student will develop through effective teaching. This one-on-one relationship will promote positive outcomes in the classroom. The classroom environment affects the student’s behavior. I believe the classroom procedures and rules should be stated on the first day of class, so the students know the acceptable behaviors. Students are less likely to misbehave if they are included in the lesson. I believe it is important to inform the student of the alternative, positive behavior that can replace their unacceptable behavior. Working on the behavior to replace the negative behavior, will allow the student to notice why the behavior is unacceptable. By working on this aspect of behavior, the student will be able to independently think through situations. The teacher must have a balance between rewards and punishments. By correcting a student’s negative behavior, and admiring the student’s positive behavior, the teacher will promote positive change. It is important for the teacher and student to be on the same page. If the student knows that the teacher will listen and understand their concerns, the student will feel comfortable enough to express their feelings. This will strengthen the teacher and student relationship. Responsibility is important when problems arise in the classroom. Whether the teacher or student caused the problem, it is important to take ownership of the problem. The teacher is not always correct, and should not act as if she is
