This article details a teacher and three students during an important testing cycle. You are able to follow the students’ individual development with the help of the teachers’ narrative. Susan R. Andersen brings her students Dean, Robin, and Terri to life. Each student has different dynamics that contribute to their academic lives. His personal life varies in condition, the teacher states that his appearance tells what life has been like for him the night before. While explaining how the students feel about testing, you also get a teacher’s perspective. The teacher acknowledges all the time it takes to prepare and implement testing days. It comes off as a waste of time for students and teachers, as well as damaging for students. You see the damage come into play when the next testing day Robin doesn’t show up to school until half the day is over. Robin didn’t want to come to school and test with the other children because she is overly worried about the test. At the end of the article the teacher explains the aftermath of the test when students get their results. The test results are given to determine if the students are above average or even meeting average standards.
