“I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing.” The infamous H.H. Holmes spoke these spine chilling words. Three days later the second Atomic bomb is dropped on another city of Japan, Nagasaki causes the deaths of 40,000 more. Consequently the Atomic Bomb killed relatively 100,000 more people that died a slow and painful death days after the explosions. Ten days later, a formal warning was issued to the Japanese. The message consisted of a call to disarm and surrender or else face quick and mass destruction. Japan felt they could not accept the terms they were given in the Potsdam Proclamation. The proclamation was the list of defining terms calling for Japan to surrender. Later on, Americans concluded that for Japan to surrender, the bomb must be used.

On 6 August 1945, the first ever atomic bomb to be dropped on foreign soil was released from Enola Gay on Hiroshima in Japan. The nuclear bomb ‘Little Boy’ was dropped as a disastrous attack in an attempt to make the Japanese surrender to America, and destroyed Hiroshima where over 70,000 people were killed instantaneously. When the Emperor of Japan refused to acquire the United States' (U.S./USA) terms of surrender, the U.S. Dropped their second atomic bomb, 'Fat Man' over Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945. Many people despise the use of the atomic bombs, including myself, as the mass murder of civilians is a cruel, uncalled for, sadistic act. Seventy-two years after we dropped the first one, the atomic bomb and the choice to drop two of them on Japan is still debated today. Was it a just decision? Could it have been avoided? Was the decision rushed? Was the dropping of the bombs necessary?

I think that the Atomic bomb shouldn’t have been invented but I think dropping the Atomic Bomb was necessary to help and show the danger of it. If the atomic bomb was never dropped anything could have happened Russia could have dealt with it, but if that happened Japan would still be working on military weapons, and try to take of the Pacific again or tag team on America. Since America dropped the Atomic bomb the world learned the power and danger of it, and seeing the survivors and the environment showed that the U.S had no idea on what power they were up against. If you were the president of the United States during a war, and the opposing forces were talking of surrender, would you not jump on even the possibility to negotiate surrender? Would you give them their one condition they ask for and then proceed to kill around 180,000 civilians then give them that one condition to make peace? The answer to both of those questions is no. Although I do believe that ending the war sooner and avoiding invasion is a must, there were other options that in my opinion would have worked as well. The USA did NOT have to drop the Atomic Bomb.
