Statement of Purpose

Coming from a generation that is considered to be frivolous by our preceding generation, I assure you that despite our non-pristine ways; the basis of what we millennials want to do is the same as what they do: make a difference in the lives of people and make this world a better place.

Not too long ago, I thought that earning a degree, finding a job would help me lead a happy, fulfilling life. It didn’t even seem that difficult at the time until I actually went to college and got exposed to some real world situations of life. While having a full life was an important part of my plan, I learned that it wasn’t enough. Prof. Fei Sha’s vision is inspiring. If cancer and its progression are predictable and if given a chance, I would love to be a part of the study and bring my best game to live up to the challenge. I am fascinated by the idea of making the lives of people better and that is exactly the kind of life changing research going on at USC. The mere idea of it motivates me to do my best so that I have a chance to be a part of it. Learning from the likes of Fei Sha, Yan Liu, Johanthan Gratch and Viktor Prasanna will enable me to develop aptitude in the areas of my interest and the essential cross domain skills to enhance my research. I also went through the course catalogue on Viterbi’s website and some of the courses that I would love to undertake are CSCI 561 Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, CSCI 541 Foundations and Applications of Data Mining, CSCI 581 Logic and its Applications, CSCI 585 Database Systems, CSCI 556 Introduction to Cryptography while the ones that intrigue me the most are CSCI 564 Brain Theory and Artificial Intelligence, and CSCI 534 Affective Computing.
