Michael Porter gained notoriety for his competitive strategy that is still widely known in the business world today. The Porter’s typology focuses on two basic business principles one of which can be identified as being used by Papa John’s and allows them to be one of the top leaders in pizza market. Porter believed that business owners should apply their efforts into a specialty products and secondly that they owners “should compete primarily by minimizing its costs relative to those of its competitors” (Parnell, 2008 p. 151).
