The idea of school uniforms has been a controversial topic since the 19th century. The South Amboy Middle-High School does not require uniforms to be worn, which is obviously a mistake. Necessitating uniforms for the school would be a wise decision that would benefit the school. All schools should demand their students to wear uniforms during school hours. Although the topic is debatable, there are several strong reasons why uniforms are vital to a successful school life. One reason school uniforms would be beneficial to the South Amboy Middle-High Schools is because help to leave a better impression on peers and teachers. The South Amboy School District constantly stresses how important first impressions are. A study conducted in 1994 showed that students wearing uniforms were found to be more academically proficient. Students peers were believed to be better behaved compared to kids in regular clothing. They were also thought to have more scholarly potential. Due to the South Amboy Middle-High School’s high belief in first impressions, school uniforms would help to conduct the school better. Not allowing students to wear their desired attire goes against the First Amendment of the Constitution. This can cause many rebellions among schools, such as the Friendly High-School, Prince George’s County, Maryland. A large amount of students were denied the request of wearing pink shirts to school for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The next day, 75 students got suspended for violating the dress code. The South Amboy School District is very prominent for encouraging students to be themselves and express themselves freely. You do have the right to accessorize uniforms by adding pins, jewelry, etc.. However, it still sets a large regulation on the students
