I am writing in response to your advertisement for the position of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Theatre at Limestone College (#48) as advertised on HigherEd.com. I have an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College in which the focus of my studies was in all areas of theatre design. My experiences in academic theatre and my commitment to teaching make me a strong candidate for this position.

My graduate work allowed me to explore all areas of theatre. Much of my studies were as a scenographer exploring the holistic approach to theatrical design. I had the opportunity to develop and teach classes in WYSIWYG Design (computer-assisted drafting), Technical Direction, Survey of Historic Costumes, Scenography, and Scenic Painting Techniques. As a student-centered teacher, I create an environment where the students feel invested in the course; it is as much theirs as mine. I design my class discussions and assignments to reflect these ideals of student ownership. They are participants in the presenting of the course material, whether by more traditional class discussions or in creative ways, such as using fabric to demonstrate how to create an autistic and historic toga. Technology has become an integral part of theatre and in the fast-paced world in which we live technology is continuously changing. As an educator it is important to keep abreast of these new technologies. We must not just show students how to use the technologies but challenge them to think and experiment on their own. We have to engage students in the classroom. In each of these classes, I developed assignments and projects that allow students to integrate theory into practice while developing their critical thinking skills.
