Church's Argument Against Abortion

The church is pro-life, therefore against abortion. There have been many instances in the Bible where God wants people to choose life instead of death. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God says. “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may life, you and your descendants.” (“Deuteronomy 30:19”). Since the beginning, God has always wanted for people to choose life. The Bible does not say that the church is pro-life, but one can infer that God saying that choosing life is the correct thing to do, gives the hint that the church is pro-life. The sixth commandment, “thou shalt not kill”, is broken when an abortion procedure happens. The Ten Commandments are rules written by God. When a person breaks these rules, that person endangers their relationship with God. (Wesley, Father). When someone breaks one of the Ten Commandments, and they know it’s wrong, they choose to do wrong, and it is wrong in general, that distances the person from God. It could be turning away from God too! (Wesley, Father). Abortion is a mortal sin. (“Abortion Still a Big Sin-CBCP”). The church is not enforcing abortion as a mortal sin as much as they need to. Abortion rates are through the roof, and the church needs to find more methods in preventing abortions. As said by Archbishop Socrates Villegas, abortion is still a mortal sin and the information still needs to be enforced. (“Abortion Still a Big Sin-CBCP”). “CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas said abortion was seriously wrong because terminating the life of the unborn trespasses the sacred ground that human life is.” (“Abortion Still a Big Sin-CBCP”). As mentioned before, the church sees life as sacred. Villegas is still enforcing that abortion is morally wrong because it goes against the belief of the church. For 2,000 years, it has been taught that human life begins at conception. God’s creation of every child is unique and unrepeatable. In the first century taught in the Didache, the Church Fathers taught that, “you shall not kill the fruit of the womb.” (“Bible Forbids Abortion”).
