The national government should legalize both medical and recreational Marijuana. The legalization of Marijuana has been a controversial topic in the United States in the recent decades. Although Marijuana has both pros and cons, if medical and recreational Marijuana were legalized, the national government would be able to find solutions in order to address the issues. Medical Marijuana should be legalized for many reasons. The two main cannabinoids from the Marijuana plant are the THC and CBD; these help with symptoms of multiple diseases such as HIV, Alzheimer's, and Cancer. According to Dr. Wilsey, a pain medicine specialist at the University of California Davis Medical Center, medical Marijuana is also prescribed to treat seizure disorders, Crohn's disease, and severe pain. Before recreational Marijuana is legalized, there needs to be many more studies regarding the effects on the users and the locations that it is legalized in. For example, in Colorado, there has been an increase of Marijuana related traffic deaths, an increase in crime, and the loss of business and tourism. Laws and regulations would need to be established by the national government regarding the legal limit and the licensing of growth and distribution centers. Although Marijuana can become addictive, so can many other drugs that are already legal such as Adderall, Morphine, and Nicotine. If recreational Marijuana remains illegal, it will still be very difficult to regulate because it can be grown in many places. No matter the laws that could be passed prohibiting recreational marijuana, there is not a possible way to eliminate it from the entire United States.
